Witnessed by 53 members and guests, David Castro’s welcome speech promised an exciting year for the South Bunbury Rotary Club and as expected from the up-and-coming President, he reinforced to the club that he was the perfect representative for the role.

The South Bunbury Rotary Club has had an exciting 2020/2021 year. Past President, Peter Hill spoke of the clubs many achievements led by his passion and commitment to the club and its philosophy of ‘Serve to Change Lives’ and thanked the many Club members involved in its success throughout the year.

This past year, the club has contributed to many projects including the Accordwest Tiny Houses construction, at the Salvation Army site on Timperley Road, Bunbury successfully housing three homeless members of the community. The Dunstan Street Christmas Lights was a raving success in December continuing a much-loved tradition by the community which involved training club members in traffic management, taking the pressure and cost of this event from the City of Bunbury for years to come. In February, the Club held its annual Children’s Fair at Forrest Park. It was a great success and the profits of this event have been passed onto local community groups in need of assistance. Under President Peters leadership, the Club donated to people in need including the Perth Hills bushfire fund which devasted the local farming community this year and many more community groups and individuals in need.

New President David Castro has big plans to continue and build on the success of last year by fundraising and supporting our local community again this year. David Castro, a Geologist by profession promised the club he would be as ‘stable of a rock’ for his Presidency year with a vision to strengthen the clubs’ systems to continue to deliver a modern and organised fundraising club that the community can depend upon.

The club is very interested in recruiting new members this year. If you know of someone interested in joining the South Bunbury Rotary Club, giving back to the community while enjoying a sense of belonging to a group of good people, we welcome you to bring them along to the club’s weekly meeting each Wednesday, held at the Parade Hotel from 615pm.
